Feral Cat Caretaker Application

Thank you for your interest in joining the Feline Foundation of Maui to humanely manage the cats at your location. Prior to completing this application, please carefully read the cat colony caretaker agreement at the bottom of the page established by the Feline foundation of Maui. You will be asked to confirm that you have read, understand, and agree to the terms and conditions in order to participate as a caretaker. Additionally, both a primary and secondary caretaker are required.

This program is not for pets. If you need information on how to get a low cost spay neuter surgery for a pet please contact the Maui Humane Society’s SNARP hotline at 877-3616 or contact 9th Life Hawaii at 572-3499. Let them know that you were referred by the Feline Foundation of Maui.

After you have correctly submitted the application, you will receive an e-mail (sent to the primary caretaker's address) confirming the application was successfully transmitted. Additionally, a representative from the Feline Foundation of Maui will contact you to discuss the details and logistics to get you started.

Cat Colony Caretaker Agreement: Cat Colony Caretaker Agreement 1. I agree to organize and oversee a TNR method (trap, neuter and return) of feral cat population control, which consists of the following: - Every attempt will be made to humanely trap all cats at the site where I am feeding so they can be spayed/neutered (and ear notched and tattooed for identification). - After recovery from surgery, cats will be returned to their original location. 2. I understand that cats that test positive for feline leukemia or AIDS may be euthanized by the participating vet, or removed from the colony and kept in an isolated situation where they cannot infect other cats. 3. I will feed and care for cats only at locations where I am a registered caretaker, and access is allowed. 4. I will identify an alternate (secondary) caretaker who agrees to take responsibility for the colony in the event that I cannot. 5. I will monitor the colony on a regular basis, and maintain a written inventory of the cats. 6. I will identify injured cats and attempt to humanely trap them in order to provide medical care or euthanasia if necessary.7. I will provide discreet feeding stations and shelter (if needed) at my colony. I will provide water if the colony lacks a natural and safe supply, and maintain the area in a neat manner, free of garbage. 8. I understand that the Feline Foundation of Maui reserves the right to inspect colonies at any time to ensure the above standards are being maintained. 9. In the event that an ear notched, tattooed cat registered to my colony is trapped and brought to the Maui Humane Society, I understand that I will be notified and must reclaim the cat immediately. 10. I understand that in order to discourage abandonment of unwanted cats, information regarding the location of my colony and all other colonies will not be released to the general public. 11. I understand that enrollment as a caretaker entitles me to financial assistance for spay/neuter services, use of humane traps and recovery cages, and access to a network of people and information regarding feral cats; that access to vet services is a privilege and that the veterinarian has a right to refuse service; and that my failing to follow the guidelines set forth above and in the Feral Spay/Neuter Program document could result in losing my caretaker status. - end of cat colony caretaker agreement -
